There are many websites offering cheap hotel accommodation in Melbourne. We have no links with any of them, but we've linked to one we use a biit when travelling away ourselves. One place that's unlikely to be on any of them is the nearest backpackers, and you can negotiate a 3 person room with them for $220 per person per week. There's an airport shuttle to the door.

A little further from the CBD but 150 metres from the bus which at the time of writing travels to the nearest large intersection to here is the Beau Monde International who have offered people who make early bird registrations a special accommodation rate of $140 per night, if you book and pay before 21 December 2011. For those who find being in the centre of a large city intimidating, this spacious suburban hotel is a non-busy choice, close to transport

When booking any accommodation we advise that you ask on the transport links to Brunswick St, Fitzroy. Our venue is in one of Melbourne's premiere dining, shopping and entertainment precincts known for its great arts scene. It is served by five bus routes, three tram routes and has two train stations (on different train lines) within 2 km with bus or tram connections. Melbourne public transport is quick, cheap and convenient; and as in cities across Europe, but possibly unlike North America, there is no social stigma attached to riding trams or buses. Of course you can choose to travel by taxi and with a group of three people it's probably the same price as tram travel; Melbourne's congestion is such that it's probably not much faster however.
