About Abi Thompson

Abi Thompson uses the structures of recycled garments with the addition of many of her broad skills to transform and reinvent into unique wearables. Her products include animal teacosies with a personality, individual silk lampshades, felt collars, felt jackets and crocheted hats with a difference.

ABI has been a professional practising artist and teacher for 30 years. Based for much of that time in the Wodonga-Albury region, her career has focused on community and the strengths to be found in the vibrant local arts scene that is found there. At the same time Abi has travelled extensively around Australia, exhibiting and conducting work-shops for both professional and community development, and marketing her wares.

Abi is an artist who defies classification and her extraordinary artworks range from large-scale oil and acrylic works on canvas, paper and board, to community murals, hand-knitted cacti, and commissioned tapestries.

Abi is an award-winning artist. Her accolades include winner of the Wodonga City Carnivale “Wearable Art” Award in both 2011 and 2010; Henty Field Day “Farm to Fashion” Award 2010; commission to create for Embroiders’ Guild 50th Anniversary Celebrations at Ararat Regional Gallery; 2004 creator of the “Craziest Beanie” at the Alice Springs Beanie Fest; and guest mask-maker for The Flying Fruit Fly Circus 20th Anniversary Celebrations in 2000

She’ll do a demonstration on the night of THURSDAY JUNE 9th between 5 and 7 pm at Beautiful Silks, 101 Victoria St Fitzroy – Admission $10.
