Beautiful Silks is proud to be associated with Abi Thompson's series of Wild Hats and Headwear workshops, presented in her home city of Wodonga, Victoria.
Abi graduated from RMIT in the 1960s with a degree in graphic design. Soon after, she returned to her first love - textiles - and became a teacher.
"After I stopped full time teaching in 1987, my love of textiles developed into a business. I started making hats and accessories because I like making products people can wear," she says. "A hat has an added bonus, you can put it on someone's head and the person picks up the personality of the hat."
Turn your 'Clutter into Flutter' This workshop will take a few pieces of recycled clothing from our twin-cities area opshops and transform it into a personalised garment with flair. Abi will use her various textile techniques and skills to WOW her students in her home / studio environment.
Most of Abi's art practice has explored textile processes such as weaving, spinning, dyeing, papermaking, crocheting, basketry and embroidery- so the clutter will be transformed using some of these techniques.
