Phil Fogle visited Australia 2 years ago and led several workshops, indicating tips to textile artists on how to take their own digital pictures of their work. These workshops were very much appreciated by the participants, one managed to get good pictures of her black devore, in the one session. Phil is returning to Australia in 2009, we are looking for expressions of interest for one workshop to be held in Melbounre March 2009
.
Dyeing workshop covers the procolour dye system,
dyeing fabrics, yarns, also print medium methods and silk crinkling.
Each participant gets basic materials and a dye booklet, maximum
12 people, cost $140 plus accommodation.
Regular workshops cover the complete dyeing process using different
types of dyes and many types of fabrics.
Marion has been dyeing professionally for over 25 years and working in textiles since she was a child, helping her mother. Her mother, at 85 is still working in textiles. This is what she says about her workshops:
- Dyeing is like riding a bike, the more you do the easier it gets,
- Confidence only comes with a bit of experience. A workshop situation that is supportive and encourages risk and experimentation is the best way to set the basis for ongoing experimentation in dyeing.
- Learn safer nadling of dyes. We only use liquid dyes that completly discharge leaving clear water. No huge loss of water in the rinse process.
-
.Basic colour mixing
- Deepening of colour - how to get your dyes to have a deeper look, by adding minute ammounts of other colours.
- Simple dyeing techniques in setting the dyes, eg electric blankets, dedicated dye microwaves
- No waste dyeing, meaning not a drop of this precious stuff is wasted.
- Complete notes to take home included in your workshop fee.
Specialty workshops can be designed to suit customer demand.
