Tania Bishop ................A STITCH IN TIME.....................

Photos of Tania's work taken by Natalie Hunfalvay

Tania Bishop is our hard working star at Beautiful Silks on Friday. She's also running her own business, as designer, production studio and artist. Her tools of trade are the knitting machine, and when she gets time, she gets down and creates amazing things with it.

In 2009 Tania has also added Workshops Coordinator to her role at Beautiful Silks.

Tania says "I am passionate about all forms of textiles. It is wonderful to see people immersed in a workshop - exploring a new area of textiles or refining their skills to a new level. It is very rewarding and exciting to see how much people enjoy the workshops, after all the hard work put in behind the scene to make each workshop a special experience."

Tania Bishop – Textile Artist 'I create sculptural forms and objects, using textile techniques such as knitting, crochet, embroidery, basketry and screen-printing on fabric and paper. I incorporate found objects and discarded materials into my work.................. Link to see Bo's pictures of the opening night... and more below on this page

....................I am inspired by nature and a love of colour, texture and pattern, which has been influenced by my travel within Australia and overseas. The Pod series of copper wire, cork and glass sculptural forms I am showing at the Beautiful Silks exhibition, reflect on the changing landscape during the recent drought. The tear drop form evokes the loss of land burnt by bush fire and the longing for rain drops to quench the scorched earth to regenerate the land. The sculpture “large pod” 2006 was made on site as artist-in-residence at the 2006 Sculpture In The Bush exhibition at Aquila in Dunkeld (near the Grampians). My background is in Fashion and Textile Design (RMIT BA Fashion, RMIT Diploma of Arts Studio Textiles). '
