Devore Velvet and Satin burnout workshop Saturday May 15th, 2010 at our Fitzroy warehouse.

What is it?- this is the technique of burning off the pile or the rayon part of the fabric, leaving only the silk

Marion Hera-Gorr is the creative director of Beautiful Silks.

Saskia Baur Scmid is a rising star. Saskia and Marion have had a client - supplier relationship for the past few years. Saskia learnt this technique from Marion and has practiced devore burnout extensively.Saskia is assisting in this technical process workshop. Click on her image above- this gown is all her own work, starting with white plain satin rayon silk fabric and producing the design for the gown and the burnout devore pattern- which she completed on the fabric, then dyed it, and sewed it. Arrive at 1pm for a 1.30pm start, concludes 5.30pm

Workshop description: 4 hours, fee $132.00 includes all materials (satin for burnout, velvet for burnout, screens, pastes screens and other and equipment.) to complete the process. There will be some requirements, limited to 6 people.

We begin the workshop with a discussion on the safety aspects of this technique, a demonstration, which includes paste recipes and how to mix them. A talk about what can go wrong with pastes! You will experience the process of applying the paste, printing drying off and burning out. You will get 2 prints, one in velvet one in satin.

We supply all materials including the screens and pastes, and fabrics, you need to arrive on time as the 4 hours will be fully utilised. You will need to bring protective clothing, a good chemical protective mask, chemical proof gloves. A list will be sent on confirmation of your booking.

Essential requirements: Wear old clothes and sturdy shoes, NO flip flops or sandals.
