Cotton and linen: a natural dye approach. November 23, 24, 25th 2019

Dyers often shy away from dyeing cotton and linen with natural dyes not knowing how to obtain strong,
long lasting colours. Participants will be guided through the recipes and processes for mordanting and
dyeing required to achieve a solid, strong and diverse colour palette. A variety of dye plants from the
garden will be used in this workshop as well as dried roots, flowers and extracts.
The fee includes a sample pack of cotton and linen which will give you a range
of samples to take home and refer to. (The dye substances are provided)
Please bring small luggage labels (available at Officeworks) and some string to tag onto your samples, at
least 40 small gold safety pins for tagging your work, scissors, wear clothing that you don’t mind getting
stains on, gloves to use (please bring sturdy not disposable gloves) a hand towel, and perhaps the
dreaded plastic bag to take any wet work home in. Wear comfy shoes, this is a relaxed workshop with 12
people maximum.
